At JD.Lee Furniture we try and keep things as simple as possible. We believe in using natural products and materials combined with traditional craftsmanship to create honest furniture for happy homes. Our timber comes straight from the place it is felled, to the mill to be turned into planks and seasoned for use. It is hand selected and carefully crafted into strong, beautiful furniture. We then personally package and send each item with love to your home.

A Holistic Approach

At JDLee Furniture we look into the lifecycle of our product and try to the best of our ability to adopt a sustainable approach (financially, spiritually and environmentally). In the beginning we identify what materials we need/choose to use and why, how they are harvested as a raw material, and other processes including time, energy and cost. Issues regarding longevity and waste are identified and resolved with integrity. Storage, packaging and transport is considered, the effect this has on the business, the customer and the environment. Once all evaluations are made and strategies put in place to create the least impact possible to the best of our ability, we then look at the end life of a product. The priority of our product is durability, the best thing any individual can do to reduce their waste is to buy less. Therefore our aim is to produce a product that will last. 

Design & Making

The approach taken to the design and manufacture of our products at JD.Lee Furniture are realised by adopting simple design principles. Our priority is to design for durability, so durable materials are sought and detailed joinery and craftsmanship is implemented in the construction and manufacturing of each product. We are aware of the impact the large products have on space when storing, distributing and even owning so we try to design for disassembly wherever possible. By being the designers and the manufactures of our product we are able to introduce systems that drastically reduce our waste as well as turning what waste we do have into a product. 

Why This Is Important

This helps us not only reduce our impact on the environment but also allows us to reduce our cost and offer a more affordable product. It is important that once all these strategies are implemented into the design that the product is also beautiful and desirable. We do not aim to make products that trend with the season but rather create simple pieces that hold the integrity of their design for many years. Once our product is complete we also endeavour to make sure it is affordable, it is impossible to match the price of seasonal furniture manufactured overseas and sold in mass, nor do we wish to do so. By purchasing a product from JD.Lee Furniture you are supporting local designers, makers and suppliers and a belief in a better more sustainable future. We believe in doing what we love and supporting what is most important to us, our beliefs, our community and our environment.

Repair & Recycle

We design and manufacture our products so they can be repaired if ever necessary. Even once a product is void of warranty we offer repairs to our entire range, it is important to us to ensure longevity of each product because that is at the basis of our core belief in creating a more sustainable future, that by buying less we are producing less waste. We also offer recycling of all our products, once at the end of their life they can be returned to our workshop and either transformed into other products or appropriately dissembled and distributed as fire wood or saw dust for gardens and chicken coops.
