The Oni Chair
The simplicity of this design is one of its most striking features, though such simple aesthetics are not easily achieved. The Oni Chair was my first deep dive into steam bending a curved form and one of the first chairs we prototyped from this collection early last year.
We went through several snapped backrests before we got the steam to curvature balance right and two prototypes before arriving at the glorious Oni Chair as it stands today. The use of through mortise and tenon joinery for the seat rail, and our custom finger joinery - connecting the front legs to the back rail - allow for supreme strength with minimal aesthetics.
This is the second last chair we will be releasing this year as part of our Chair-ish Collection. Each design has varied in style and construction and has been a personal exploration of craft and creativity.
